Duration: 24 Weeks
Procurement Method: Competitive Tender Process
Project Outline:
A ‘live’ works during Dr’s surgery operating hours – consisting of building a new extension.
Holes Lane Medical Centre provides high quality health services for approximately 11,000 patients located in the Woolston area of Warrington. The surgery is part of a practice group with a branch site located on Manchester Road.
These building works relate to the Holes Lane premises only which houses seven doctors, 4 nursing staff, 10 practice management and administration staff along with other healthcare practitioners including community midwives, nurses and health visitors
The Works comprise of the construction of a new double storey surgery extension, remodelling of the existing surgery and external works.
Challenges faced and solutions to these:
- The surgery required its hours of operating and use by both staff and the general public to remain unhindered. We catered for this by setting up fencing, pedestrian barriers and site signage in order to create exclusion zones. As well as this all any works which created a possible disturbance such as the installation of new automatic doors or the knock through to connect the extension and the main building were scheduled in to be undertaken out of hours.
- Chrysotile asbestos was discovered during the roof works which had not been identified during the asbestos R&D survey. Works to this area were halted immediately and the client and their contract administrator were informed. We organised for a licensed asbestos removal contractor to attend site the following morning who removed the asbestos as per regulation guidelines thus enabling works in that area to commence without any further disruption.
